Born 20 April 1827.
The family
Karlsson emigrated to America and settled down in New Sweden, Iowa, in 1868. In 1876 or
1877 they moved to Nebraska and homesteaded. They lived at a place 15 Eng. miles south of
Kearney about a year, until they had constructed a sod house. Minden, Axtell, Holdreg didn't
exist at that time. The nearest town from their homestead was Kearney, where to they had to
go 20 English miles with oxen. They had to go to Bloomington, Nebraska to get their
homestead rights. There was a trail through their pasture land, where people used to travel
from Kansas to Kearney.
